Upside down sleeping otter

Otters are usually very busy, it's good to see they also get some time to rest

That depends on if it's in the water or on land,
In the water sea otters swim on there backs, so a sea otter on its stomach would be an upside down otter
But on land sea otters walk on their feet, so a sea otter on its back on land would be an upside down otter
An otter is an upside down otter if it would usually be the other way up in the given context

What about an otter doing a headstand?

That's a spiral shaped otter, a category into itself

Otters come in so many shapes, they are really quite amazing!

Head shapes

Let's talk about the different shapes of otters' heads. Funny thing I noticed, otters (at least some species) tend to have some kind of ridge down the middle of their heads. Does anybody know why they have this?

Oh, that's still a nice theory though, and it does make sense. Maybe there's another explanation though.
You were studying to become a neurosurgeon? That's really cool, how's life been going since you dropped out? I hope you found your calling.

I'm glad you think it's reasonable, it's the best explanation that I could come up with for why there'd be a ridge like that in that specific area. And technically, I wasn't studying to be a neurosurgeon, that's just the specialization that I was looking at before I dropped out of med school. But that's neither here nor there, I suppose. Life's been fine since then though, I'm looking at becoming a teacher of some sort, probably teaching English if I can do what I want.

Other carnivores have the same thing going on, I noticed
Dogs have it too, bears have it, raccoons have it, cats maybe to a lesser extent.

Now I'd really like to know what's going on. Maybe this is just how the frontal/parietal bone grows in carnivores?
Found an interesting article on otter intelligence here. It even gives a brief bit on the brain structure

That's tough! It looks like it has fingers so maybe one of the aonyx?

You're on the right track!
(Assuming that I'm remembering correctly, that is. It's been so long since I asked that I'm not longer 100% sure what the right answer is, )

Otters: Small heads, big mouths.

Like many humans.

The smaller the head, the bigger the mouth in proportion.
This is why they can AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA so well.

Congo clawless otter

Where did he get those weird stripes?
32 replies hidden. Show all
Congo clawless otters got the fanciest makeup! They're not far away from being fit for a black metal band with those stripes :P

The stripes help them throw the football better. I thought this was common knowledge.

See, this otter doesn't have stripes, and so he's not as good at football

But he IS trying!

True! It is possible to overcome disadvantaged starting conditions with sufficient effort. Any otter who tries hard enough can achieve their dreams! Though I wonder the NFL would think about an otter player. As much as I wish it would be an air bud situation I'm sure they wouldn't be cool with it. A local team probably would be though, who wouldn't want an otter teammate?
