Otter conservation projects
Hey otters,
I just discovered otterchat and wanted to share these conservation projects with you:
"Otterside": A Project in Germany, to create more/better/safer habitats for the eurasian otter:
https://www.otterside.de/spiel/
Bold**The Link to the website leads to a small browser game, where you can play as an eurasian otter!**Bold

"Aktion Fischotterschutz & Otterzentrum Hankensbüttel": Volunteers and Scientists working together, transforming german landscapes into more otter-friendly places, as well as educating people about the otters importance to nature. There is also a database for otter-spotters to enter their findings:
https://www.otterspotter.de
This is how we know, eurasian otter numbers are on the rise!
Otterzentrum Hankensbüttel is a Zoo where you can see eurasian Otters as well as other mustelids in their natural habitat and learn about them:
https://otterzentrum.de
Thanks to these projects/institutions, the almost extinct eurasian otter is reclaiming german nature!
Do you know other such projects in your area? Post them here!

>Well, I was sitting at the front, close to the projector. I was wearing a grey otter hoodie. It´s quite possible, we´ve met at some point!
Then we definitely did cause that's where I was sitting lol, I was red stripes guy
>At the end of this month, I will be at the otter-spotter induction
Oh, it's worth the hype! there's a lot to learn, just don't do what I did and forget to bring proper boots.
>Also, I´ve heard, there´s a new otter in Hankensbüttel. Have you heard about that?
I read about something like that. And, I did hear they're wanting to introduce some more different otter species, which might be cool... though it would be quite a step from just having the locally present mustelids. I wonder how they'll do it.

I guess Asian Small Clawed Otters are a good start. Although their unquenchable appetite, which will cost a lot of money and time, I´m pretty sure they will be one of the visitors favourite species. I mean- just look at them! But other Otter species? Maybe Lontra canadensis? They are a lot like our Eurasian Otter, so there´s no need for special enclosures or food.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the giant otter jungle biome

>Maybe Lontra canadensis?
Or Lontra provocax too, their temperate climate is similar enough to here
>Or Lontra provocax too, their temperate climate is similar enough to here
They also look quite similiar to our Eurasian Otter.

That would be awesome! Maybe convert Isenhagender See into a salt water lake and have a sea otter population in there, too?
All jokes aside, I really wonder, what will be the next new addition to our Otterzentrum. I bet, it´ll be great.

As you probably know Otterchat is currently running on Wakaba, which is a very old imageboard script that apart from me adding stuff to it over the years, it's pretty much unmaintained. And as you can imagine, having to work with someone else's 3000 lines of old perl, it's not been the easiest time for me adding cool features and stuff to the site... I don't know that there are any actual issues with Wakaba security wise, but even the person who developed it says don't use it. And especially after the scare that happened this year with the big 4, i'll trust him and say it's time for something new.
So, I've been working away at a whole new imageboard software, just for Otterchat! I figured it's time to share some progress with you guys. The project is called "nobo" which means "new otter board". It's been going alright and after many a weekend it's finally ready enough to be presentable... in screenshot form! There's already some great additions in nobo, such as live updates and multiple attachments per post. I'll update this thread with any progress i can squeeze in, there is a looooot to do still... But yeah, Tl;dr Big otterchat software update in the works! That's all for now.

Maybe the otter is friends with the nothing dimension. They could hang out and swim together, play games together, support eachother in their endeavors. I believe in the power of otter friendship!
If an otter enters the nothing dimension doesn't it become the otter dimension

You're right, and now the nothing is trapped in the otter dimension

After that, nothing happened

Then an otter got bored of the otter dimension and got back in the nothing.

The southern river otter is critically endangered at the southern edge of its range in the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago, where conservation is challenged not only by threats to the species but also by the realities of fieldwork: harsh climate, isolation, long distances, and complex oceanographic conditions. Join us as Dr. Alejandro Valenzuela shares firsthand insights into conserving this species in one of the world’s most demanding field environments.

oh this sounds super cool! I love stuff like this, thanks for sharing!
It was a good talk, I'm glad I joined even though I missed part of it.
What Alejandro said about
>there's not one right way to do things, just do it your own way
was nice reflection at the end.
Otter Game

For those who don't know, a cute co-op otter game was released last year. I haven't played it, but it looks very sweet. It is called 'That One Otter Game', and it is free to play. Worth noting, I think it is local co-op only.
Here is the page on the Steam store: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3823460/That_One_Otter_Game/
And on the Itch.io store:
https://artfx-school.itch.io/that-one-otter-game
This looks pretty cute, maybe we could play it together
I hope it has physics

So a lot of animals don't really like hugs. Are otters different? Will an otter let you hug it? Or do they only hug each other?
Post some pics of otters hugging pls.

Otters in Magic the Gathering (MtG)
60 kb jpg
Hello! I can't believe this forum has hidden from me until today. For my first contribution I bring Otter cards from Magic the Gathering, a very popular trading card game. Pictured is my favourite, Coruscation Mage, an otter wizard. Ask if you have any questions about this, I might be able to answer.
There are quite a few, click the link below to see a comprehensive list of them:
https://scryfall.com/search?q=art%3Aotter&unique=art
(I had a skim through the catalogue, and I don't think this has been mentioned b4, sorry if it has)
These arts are kinda cool
95 kb jpg
That's a lot of otters! So how does this work, I guess they're artworks contributed by different artists?
>pic
Aww..

Yes, the artist's name can be found at the bottom of the card; Omar Rayyan in the case of 'Run Away Together'.
I think they commission artists directly, and give them the details of the card so the artist can decide on what to put in.

Giant frog or tiny otter?
